The New York Yankees announced on Thursday that Joe Torre has turned down a one-year contract to return as the club's manager in 2008.
Torre rejected a deal that would have paid him $5 million plus bonuses for how far New York made it in the postseason. It is believed he made $7 million last year.
Torre has guided New York to four World Series titles and was 1,173-767 during his career as the Yankees' bench. He also guided the club to 12 straight playoff appearances.
The Phillies will have no interest in the 67-year-old, as they have already brought back Charlie Manuel as manager for at least two more years.
