Under head coach Andy Reid, the Eagles improved their record to 9-0 in games following the bye week. Since the bye week was implemented in 1990, the Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings share the league’s all-time best record (15-4) in games after the bye week … In games following the bye throughout the rest of the season, Reid’s Eagles own an impressive 51-20 (.718) mark.
The 75-yard touchdown catch by Kevin Curtis was the 2nd-longest of his career. His longest was an 83-yard scoring play from Jamie Martin vs. Jacksonville as a member of the St. Louis Rams on October 30, 2005. With 444 yards on 24 receptions this year, Curtis is 2nd in the NFL (Cleveland’s Braylon Edwards - 19.0) with an 18.5-yard per catch average. Curtis also ranks 2nd in the NFC (Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald) and 7th in the NFL in yards per game receiving average (88.8).
After sacking Chad Pennington 3 times yesterday, the Eagles are now tied with Kansas City for the league lead with 19 sacks. Furthermore, the Eagles defensive line, led by DE Trent Cole’s 6.0, has accounted for 16 of those sacks, also topping the league’s charts. Green Bay’s defensive line is second with 13.5 sacks.
The Eagles defense has allowed just six touchdowns in their first five games, a span of 57 possessions. They have recorded at least one sack and one interception in each of the past nine regular season games. They have been stingy in the red zone, allowing only five touchdowns in 18 possessions (27.8%), ranking them 2nd in the NFL. They also rank 7th in the league in 3rd down defense, limiting opponents to a 36.1% conversion rate on third down (26-72).
With 120 rushing yards yesterday, Brian Westbrook (3,863) moved past Ricky Watters (3,794) and into fifth place on team’s all-time rushing list. He trails Randall Cunningham (4,482) for 4th place by 619 yards. With 670 total yards from scrimmage in four games, Westbrook ranks 5th in the NFL in that category and leads the league with a 167.5-yard per game average … Westbrook’s rushing prowess has helped the Eagles rank 2nd in the NFL with a 4.9 yard per carry average, trailing only Minnesota’s 5.6-yard average
Philadelphia increased their all-time record to 8-0 against the Jets. The Jets and the Houston Texans (2-0) are the only two teams to have never defeated the Eagles … In his 16 career regular season starts, Curtis has 70 catches for 1125 yards and 9 TDs … The Eagles had their streak of consecutive regular season games of not allowing a 100-yard rusher snapped at seven after Thomas Jones topped the 100-yard mark yesterday … Of Sheldon Brown’s 12 career interceptions, 10 have led to Eagles scoring drives. Both of Brown’s INTs in 2007 have led to field goals … The Eagles have gone 7 regular season games without allowing an opening drive TD. The Eagles improved their record to 67-26 since 2000 when not allowing an opening drive TD and 21-5 when scoring one.
