St. Joe's announces basketball sked

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's basketball will make 13 national television appearances in 2013-14, as the Atlantic 10 Conference announced its full league schedule. The Hawks' slate features 15 home games at Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena with more television appearances to be announced.

The first year of the conference's eight-year media television partnership will feature a record 71 nationally-televised games - - 50 conference games, 14 premium non-conference contests and the quarterfinals, semifinals and final of the A-10 men's basketball championship.

Saint Joseph's is slated for six games to be televised on the CBS Sports Network (CBSSN) and five on the ESPN Networks. New league partner NBCSN will air two Hawk contests.

The Hawks begin the year on the road, visiting Vermont on November 9 before playing the home opener against Marist on November 13. Saint Joseph's will continue its series with fellow Jesuit institution Creighton, hosting the Bluejays on November 16.

Saint Joseph's will participate in the nationally-televised Old Spice Classic over Thanksgiving weekend at ESPN's Wide World of Sports at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla. SJU will open play against LSU on Thanksgiving night on ESPN2 and continue play in the tournament on November 29 versus either Memphis or Siena, with the telecasts on ESPN2 or ESPNU. The Hawks' third game in the tournament on December 1 will also be televised on one of the ESPN channels.

SJU returns home from Florida for three straight city contests, at Temple on December 4 (ESPNews), and Hagan Arena games with Villanova on December 7 (CBSSN) and Drexel on December 18.

The Hawks travel to Loyola-Md. on December 21 and after a break for the holiday, host Boston University on December 29 and Binghamton on New Year's Eve. Saint Joseph's will face Denver at Hagan Arena on January 4 in the last game before Atlantic 10 play begins.

Saint Joseph's will have eight nationally-televised conference games this season. After opening league play at Massachusetts on January 8, the Hawks will travel to new A-10 member George Mason on January 11 for a CBSSN telecast.  SJU hosts Duquesne on January 15 and Rhode Island on January 22, with a non-conference game against Penn at The Palestra taking place in between (January 18). A road contest at Richmond (January 25) will mark the Hawks' first appearance of the year on the NBC Sports Network. After a game at Dayton (January 29), the Hawks return to Hagan Arena for three straight against Massachusetts on February 1, Saint Louis on February 5 and a nationally-televised game with VCU on CBSSN on February 8.

This year's schedule features two games with city rival La Salle, marking the first time as A-10 members that the schools will play twice during the regular season. On February 15, the teams will meet at Gola Arena on ESPNU, marking SJU's first visit to La Salle's campus since March, 2001. The Hawks and Explorers will play the regular-season finale on March 9 at Hagan Arena, with the national telecast on CBSSN.

Prior to that, the Hawks will host Fordham on February 22 and Dayton on February 25 in a CBSSN broadcast, and then go on the road to St. Bonaventure on March 1 (NBCSN) and George Washington on March 5.

All 13 teams will advance to the 2014 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. There will be one opening round game on Wednesday, March 12, while first round games will be played on March 13. The quarterfinal round, on March 14, will be produced by the NBCSN. Semifinal games will air on CBS Sports Network on Saturday, March 15 and the final will air live on CBS Sports on NCAA Selection Sunday, March 16 at 1 p.m. for the fifth straight year.

Additional game times and more television appearances for SJU will be announced at a later date.
