Soul's Morgan named AFL Playmaker of the Week

PHILADELPHIA – The Arena Football League has announced that Philadelphia Soul WR Donovan Morgan  has been named the AFL Playmaker of the Week for his performance this past Friday in the Soul’s 84-59 victory against division rival, Pittsburgh Power.

Morgan finished the day with 12 catches for 112 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Soul receiving corps against the Power defense.  Morgan carried the offense early, accounting for all 14 of the Soul’s points in the first quarter.  He caught another touchdown with five minutes left in the second quarter and his final scoring play came two minutes into the fourth quarter on a 30-yard reception for a touchdown.

“Donovan is a vital piece of our offensive unit. I think his performance against Pittsburgh last weekend proved that,” said Soul head coach Doug Plank.  “He was a big contributor in 2011 and he’s carried that over into 2012.  He earned this award and we look forward to what he can do the remainder of the season.”

Through two games, Morgan has compiled 20 receptions for 198 yards and six touchdowns.  He is also the Soul’s leading rusher in terms of yards with 47 on six carries.  Morgan is tied at No. 4 in the league for receptions per game (10.0), No. 6 for receptions (20) and reception touchdowns (6), and No. 3 for rushing (47) and yards per rush (7.8).
