Soul re-sign DL Fitzgerald

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Soul announce the re-assignment of defensive linemen Jeffrey Fitzgerald (6-4, 270, Kansas State) to the team’s 2012 roster.  Fitzgerald is coming off his rookie season in the AFL and is ready to build off of last season’s personal success.

“This was a very important signing for us,” Soul head coach Doug Plank.  “Jeffrey created havoc last season for opponents.  To win a championship in this League, it is vital to create turnovers and keep your offense on the field as much as possible.  He will create turnovers and give our offense a chance to score more points.”

Coming off his first season in the AFL, Fitzgerald finished with 27.5 tackles, tied for No. 1 on the team in forced fumbles with three, including two fumble recoveries, one sack, and one interception.

Fitzgerald played under Bill Snyder at Kansas State University (2009).  In his senior season, the former Wildcat recorded 40 tackles (24.0 solo), 10.0 tackles for loss, seven sacks, one interception, two fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles.

He began his collegiate career at the University of Virginia (2006-07) playing under Al Groh.  He registered 137 tackles (72.0 solo), 24.0 stops for loss, 12.0 sacks, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles in two seasons as a Cavalier.  He also received the Bill Dudley Award as Virginia’s outstanding first-year player.  His accolades also include First-Team Freshman All- American (2006), First-Team All-State (2006), ACC All-Freshman (2006), and Rookie of the Year in Virginia (2006).
