PPL Park could be problem in Villanova's move to D-1 football

Villanova University's Board of Trustees has delayed a vote on Tuesday regarding a potential move of its Football Championship Subdivision program to the Big East of the Bowl Subdivision.

The Philadelphia Inquirer  is reporting there was concern raised by some Big East schools during a conference call Sunday evening regarding Villanova's plan to play most of its home games at PPL Park in Chester, the 18,500-seat home of Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union.

The stadium can be expanded to about 30,000 seats, but it would still remain the smallest in the Big East.

Villanova has focused on playing at PPL Park because its 12,000-seat on-campus stadium is too small for Big East competition.

VUHoops.com reported Thursday that a source close to the situation said the Villanova trustees in favor of a move to the Big East have enough votes to pass the measure.

All of the Wildcats' teams participate in the Big East except for football, which is a member of CAA Football.
