The Philadelphia Freedoms completed their 2010 team lineup during the World TeamTennis Pro League Roster Draft, adding a former league MVP and one of the games' rising stars to their 2010 team. Roster players Ramon Delgado, Prakash Amritraj, Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Courtney Nagle join Andy Roddick on the Freedoms' roster.
The Freedoms purchased the rights to Ramon Delgado in a pre-Draft deal with the Newport Beach Breakers. Delgado, from Asuncion, Paraguay, is currently No. 165 in the world in singles. Delgado won the singles title at two Challenger events at the end of 2009. He is a member of the Paraguay Davis Cup team with a 35-16 career record (26-8 in singles) in 18 ties since 1994.
Delgado was named WTT MVP in 2008, and had a win over Pete Sampras at the French Open in 1998. His highest individual ranking was on the ATP Tour on April 26, 1999, at No. 52. Previously, Delgado played six
seasons for the Newport Beach Breakers.
Joining Delgado for the 2010 season are Prakash Amritraj, Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Courtney Nagle. Amritraj, the son of tennis great Vijay Amritraj, is currently ranked No. 218 in the world in singles and No. 133 in doubles.
Lertcheewakarn is viewed by many as Asia's next tennis superstar, and was the first Asian player to be crowned ITF Junior Girl's World Champion. The 18-year-old Noppawan has appeared in six Junior Grand
Slam finals, winning both the singles and doubles junior titles at Wimbledon in 2009. She also won the junior doubles titles at the 2008 US Open and the 2009 French Open.
Nagle, who reached a career high doubles ranking of No. 97 in 2009, also won her first ITF Circuit doubles title last year.
For the seventh season in a row, the Freedoms will be coached by Craig Kardon, who led the team to a Championship title in 2006. Craig has formerly coached some of the top players on the tour including Martina
Navratilova, Lindsay Davenport and Jennifer Capriati and Ana Ivanovic.
Earlier this year the Freedoms announced marquee visits from five former No. 1 players, including Andy Roddick (July 15), Venus Williams (July 8), Serena Williams (July 13), Anna Kournikova (July 20), and Martina Hingis (July 21).
All Freedoms home matches are played at the Pavilion at Villanova University. Start time is 7:00pm. Philadelphia plays seven matches at home during the WTT regular season July 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 20,
and 21.
