PORTSMOUTH, VA. - Saint Joseph's standout and Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Ahmad Nivins is among the 64 seniors nationally who will participate in the 57th annual Portstmouth Invitational on April 8-11, which is a showcase for outstanding men's basketball players in their senior year of college.
Nivins averaged 19.2 points and 11.7 rebounds this season to lead the Hawks, while shooting a conference-best 61.2 percent from the field. He earned Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America honors.
The Hawks' senior will be joined by three Atlantic 10 players at Portsmouth - Rhode Island's Jimmy Baron, Duquesne's Aaron Jackson and Xavier's B.J. Raymond.
Last season, SJU senior Pat Calathes participated in the event.
The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (P.I.T.) is the nation's oldest amateur basketball tournament. It is recognized by NBA and European scouts as the premier showcase for future professional players. The P.I.T. is the only tournament for college seniors to participate in and be evaluated by the National Basketball Association prior to the NBA's pre-draft camp.
