See that smile. Happy Valley isn't really that happy at the moment.
In shades of Vidal Hazelton's recruiting process, four-star running back Broderick Green, a bruising runner with open-field speed from Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas, announced his decision to attend USC during a Wednesday afternoon news conference.
He joins five-star running back Joe McKnight in a star-studded Trojans recruiting class.
Internet rumors are running rampant that Green apparently called head coach Joe Paterno on Monday, reportedly telling the 80-year-old college football icon that he was prepared to enroll at Penn State. He then informed the rest of the coaching staff Tuesday.
That was before Pete Carroll spent Wednesday morning in Green's ear, apparently long enough to sway the Little Rock, Arkansas star's decision. The delay in the press conference, originally scheduled for 1:25 p.m. (et) was due to Green's late decision.
The Phanatic Magazine could not confirm or deny the rumors.
A man stepped to the podium just before 1:50 p.m. (et) and announced that Green hadn't made his decision until 1:00 p.m. (et) and needed time to go home and change clothes.
Green ran for 2,042 yards and 23 touchdowns as a senior at Pulaski Academy. Yet, more important than his stats, Green would have been a monumental get for a Nittany Lions team unsure at running back.
This is what Scout.com has to say about Green:
Green has great size and speed for a big back. He's built like a tank, a powerful lower and upper body. Green has terrific leg drive and an even better stiff arm. He’s a bull running between the tackles and can take on anything in his way. On the outside, he has the speed to get in space. In the open field, he’s so tough to bring down and he can catch as well. He shows good balance and vision and has a nose for the end zone.
The Phanatic Magazine will have more Penn State recruiting information throughout the day.

Smart move for the kid. USC is the best and he will get recognized there more.
JoePa is really losing it. To have the kid reeled in and then to lose him is just bad for the program.
Green was hardly "reeled in." He's had a verbal with SC for months. The mere fact the staff and facilities at PSU impressed the kid enough to cause him to reconsider is a testament to Penn State's program.
