Chester, Pa. – Philadelphia Union defender Bakary Soumaré has been called up to the Mali National Team for a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against Rwanda, the club announced today.
Soumaré and his team will travel to Kigali City, Rwanda to take on the Rwandan national squad March 22.
The 27-year-old defender will depart for international duty March 17 – a day after the Union’s home match versus New England Revolution – and return March 24. He will miss the club’s international friendly against Club Universidad Nacional, A.C. (Pumas) on March 23.
Soumaré has made 13 appearances for Mali since making his debut in 2009, starting in a 4-0 victory over Angola in an international friendly. Soumaré has also appeared for his country in several 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches and the 2010 African Cup of Nations, starting in two games during the tournament.
