Wings fall to Blazers

The Philadelphia Wings fell to the Boston Blazers by a final score of 9-7 in a closely contested match up at the TD Garden Saturday night.  Though the Wings put forth a second half effort reminiscent of their stellar comeback against Toronto last weekend, Dan Dawson and the Blazers were ultimately too much to overcome.

Down 7-2 after the first half, the Wings battled back, scoring five of the next six goals to cut Boston’s lead to just one at 8-7. Unfortunately, Dawson would net his fifth of the game for Boston to end the affair at 9-7.

Much like last week, Brandon Mundorf and Drew Westervelt once again led the team in scoring. Each recording four points, Mundorf notched a goal and three assists, as Westervelt netted a hat trick and single helper.

Typical of the Wings’ matchups against Boston this season, the game was played in the form of a tight defensive battle. The defense did all they could to keep the Blazers at bay, while All-star goalie Brandon Miller held up his part of the bargain, turning away 30 of his 39 shots faced. Still, the Wings came up just short on Saturday night against their Eastern Division rivals.

The team returns home to the Wells Fargo Center Sunday to host the Rochester Knighthawks at 2:30 p.m. It will be the final opportunity to see the Wings at home this season.
