The Philadelphia Soul announce the signing of kicker James Paul (6’2, 215, Central Arkansas) to the team’s 2011 roster. Paul will be joining the Soul as they prepare to open the season on the road against the Pittsburgh Power on Friday, March 11 at 8 p.m. on the NFL Network.
“James has a strong and accurate leg,” said Soul head coach Mike Hohensee. “We are happy to have him here. We will be counting on him as special teams will play a crucial role in our overall success as a team this season.”
Paul has played two years of Arena Football in the af2 with Hohensee and the Peoria Pirates (2009) and the Arkansas Twisters (2008). This past year, Paul has coached kicking and punting at the Central Arkansas Kicking Academy, located in Little Rock, AR.
As a Bear, Paul earned All-Conference honors as both a punting and kicking specialist while starting all four years. He broke several UCA records which include, most consecutive extra points (64), highest career extra point percentage (97%), highest punt average in a game (56.3 yards), and longest punt (81 yards). He is also tied for fifth in career scoring, third in punt average (41.3 yards), and also kicked the third longest punt (76 yards).
Paul is originally from Dallas, TX but later moved to Jacksonville, AR. He attended Jacksonville High School where he earned All-State honors in two consecutive seasons as both a kicker and punter.
