Philadelphia Union topped the University of South Florida 2-0 on a chilly afternoon at the Dewey O. Boster Sports Complex, the club's first victory of their 2011 preseason camp in Orlando, Fla. Sebastien Le Toux and Danny Mwanga each netted first half tallies in the winning effort.
The Union’s opening goal came in the 19th minute when defender Sheannon Williams sent a long ball along the right flank to Justin Mapp. The versatile midfielder broke free into the box and sent a low ball past Mwanga to a streaking Le Toux, who made no mistake with the finish to put Philadelphia up 1-0.
Philadelphia continued creating opportunities throughout the first half, but it wasn’t until the 33rd minute that Roger Torres found Le Toux alone 40 yards from goal. The Frenchman broke through USF’s defense and found Mwanga, whose shot curled inside the far post for a 2-0 advantage.
After a scoreless second half, the match ended 2-0 in favor of the Union, who return to action on Sunday, February 13 against the University of Central Florida at 10:00 a.m. EST.
