The NBA has announced the rosters for the 2011 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam as voted on by the league’s assistant coaches, with each team submitting one ballot.
Sixers guard Jrue Holiday was named to the sophomore squad. He is one of four players on the sophomore team who did not compete in last year’s Rookie Challenge. The game will be held on Friday, Feb. 18, in Los Angeles during NBA All-Star 2011.
"This is a well-deserved recognition for Jrue, who continues to display the abilities that make him an important part of our future," said Sixers President Rod Thorn. "We want to congratulate Jrue on his selection and we look forward to him proudly representing the Sixers during All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles."
Holiday has started all 47 games for the Sixers so far this season and is averaging 14.2 points, a team-high 6.6 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.47 steals in 35.1 minutes per game. He has the highest combined total of points, rebounds and assists of any sophomore this season.
The 20-year-old Holiday was originally the 17th overall pick by the Sixers in the 2009 NBA Draft. He was the youngest player in the league last season and is still the youngest member of the Sixers.
This season, Holiday has already scored 20-plus points seven times and has posted nine double-doubles. As a rookie in 2009-10, he scored 20-plus points four times and recorded two double-doubles.
Holiday becomes the 10th Sixer to be named to a Rookie Challenge roster and is the third current member of the team to do so, joining Andre Iguodala (2005, 2006) and Thaddeus Young (2009). Iguodala (2006) and Allen Iverson (1997) are the only Sixers to be named MVP of the Rookie Challenge.
