Soul sign three more

The Philadelphia Soul announce the signings of fullback-linebacker Melik Brown (6-2, 275, North Carolina), offensive-defensive lineman Tramaine Jehovah (6-1, 260, Miami OH), and quarterback Millicent Olawale (6-0, 224, Columbia) for the 2011 season.

“We are excited about Melik [Brown], Tramaine [Jehovah], and Millicent [Olawale],” said Soul coach Mike Hohensee.  “Melik and Tramaine both possess the versatility to play multiple positions and Millicent was the most impressive passer at our last tryout.  Adding these players will allow us to maximize the effectiveness of our 21-man roster limitations.”

Brown has excelled in his two years of indoor football, having played for the Baltimore Mariners (2010) and the Harrisburg Stampede (2009) of the American Indoor Football Association.  With the Mariners, he finished third on his team in tackles, second in the league in sacks, and first in the league in tackles for a loss.  As a member of the Stampede, Brown was named team MVP and earned a spot on the All-Star Team with his 19 tackles and eight sacks.

Brown also spent time with the British Columbia Lions of the CFL (2009), Central Penn Piranha of the Big North East Football Federation (2008), and the South Jersey Lynx of the North American Football League (2007).  The former Tar Heel was a four-year starter, playing both defensive end and linebacker.  He was named team MVP, earned the Most Spirit Award, and set a defensive squat record of 660 lbs.

Jehovah will also bring indoor football experience to the Soul, having spent last season with the Columbus Lions of the Southern Indoor Football League (2010).  As a defensive lineman, he recorded 11.5 tackles during his seven games played.  He also finished the season No. 7 in the league for sacks (4.5) and No. 4 for forced fumbles (2).  Jehovah was named to the 2010 All-SIFL Second-Team, and capped off the season with a SIFL Championship victory.  Jehovah has also spent time with the Arkansas Twisters of the af2 (2009) and played his collegiate career for the Red Hawks at Miami University of Ohio.

Olawale recorded 1,019 passing yards for eight touchdowns, and added 310 rushing yards for seven touchdowns in seven games during his senior season as a Lion.  In 2009, he was named a team captain and received the Captain’s Award, Phil Fusco Award for Excellence in Academics, Athletics and Fellowship, as well as honorable mention to the All-Ivy League Team.  In 2008, he was named the team’s Offensive MVP.
