Division I college hockey rankings and more

With the lack of NHL news and the hold on the start of the regular season, The Phanatic aims to keep you updated on the game beyond what the Flyers and their opponents are doing or not doing as the lockout continues.

The start of Division I college hockey's regular season will occur this coming weekend, and USCHO released a pre-season poll of the top 20 schools, as follows:

Princeton, the closest D-I school to Philadelphia, doesn't begin its 2012-13 schedule until the 19th with a two-game exhibition against Guelph. The Tigers' first regular-season game is on October 26 at Brown, and their first official home tilt is November 9 against Cornell at Baker Rink.

Coverage of the college hockey season, on NBC Sports Network, begins this Friday with the Icebreaker Tournament in Kansas City featuring Maine, Notre Dame, Army and Nebraska-Omaha.
