Ellis reunites with Mayes for middays on The Fanatic
PHILADELPHIA - The incestuous Philadelphia radio wars took another turn Friday with the news of Rob Ellis' full-time return to 97.5 The Fanatic.
Ellis will reunite with Harry Mayes to handle middays. He left WIP in March after losing his afternoon drivetime slot and being bounced around after Anthony Gargano's departure.
Philly's lower-rated sports station is now loaded with ex-WIPers, starting with Gargano, who now handles mornings and has been losing handily to the entrenched Angelo Cataldi and Co at WIP.
Ellis, who started with the Greater Media talker and hosted nights with Mayes and the long-forgotten Jamie Yannacone, before jumping to WIP was getting trounced by Missanelli in the afternoon while teaming with Gargano.
That failure prompted WIP chief Andy Bloom to take a chance on lightning-rod Josh Innes, who now handles afternoon drive with Tony Bruno, the long-time Philly talker who used to team with Mayes over at 97.5. Innes and Bruno have topped Missanelli in the ratings for four consecutive months.
And in case you are wondering Missanelli and his producer/assistant program director Jason Myrtetus, as well as night-time host Joe DeCamara are all WIP alums.
Eytan Shander, yes, another ex-WIP employee, has been hosting with Mayes on 97.5 and is the odd man out.
