On Wednesday, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren confirmed that left wing Eric Wellwood has signed an AHL contract, keeping him under the organizational umbrella as he recovers from a freak leg injury.
Wellwood has been out of action since suffering a deeply lacerated leg tendon in an early April game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers -- an injury which was life-threatening due to the amount of blood loss.
We've all seen the picture of the 23-year-old's bloody skate in the aftermath.
Before the season-ending setback, Wellwood totaled nine goals and 17 points in 58 games with the Adirondack Phantoms, also seeing four games with the Flyers.
