PHILADELPHIA - Oft-injured wide receiver Arrelious Benn's return to the practice field didn't last long.
The Illinois product tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a joint practice with the New England Patriots on Tuesday, becoming the the second Philadelphia eceiver to suffer the injury in training camp.
Benn, who was acquired from Tampa Bay in the offseason, was on special teams duty when the injury occurred.
The Eagles' leading receiver in 2012, Jeremy Maclin, went down with a torn ACL on July 29.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Benn was originally a second-round pick by Tampa Bay in the 2010. In his three seasons with the Bucs, Benn tallied 59 receptions for 862 yards and five touchdowns. His best year came in 2011, when he caught 30 passes for 441 yards and three touchdowns.
The Eagles also announced the release of wide receiver Dave Ball on Tuesday.
