Chase Utley will be a Phillie for "life."
On Wednesday night, CSN's Jim Salisbury was first to report that Utley would receive a contract extension, while Jon Heyman of CBS Sports quoted the deal as being for $27 million for two years -- all of which is guaranteed money.
No terms of the deal, financial or otherwise, has been forthcoming by the franchise.
Utley is currently in his 11th major-league season, all with Philadelphia. This year, the 34-year-old is hitting .275 with 15 home runs, 16 doubles and 42 RBI in 82 games.
Since breaking into the majors in 2003, the southern California native is a .287 hitter who has collected 214 homers and 781 RBI in 1,276 appearances as of tonight's home game against the Chicago Cubs.
