(The Phanatic Magazine) – Temple senior PK/P Brandon McManus is one of 117 football student-athletes nominated for the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
The award recognizes a select group of college football players committed to making a difference in their communities.
McManus is a senior placekicker and punter for Temple. A 2012 preseason All-BIG EAST selection by Phil Steele’s College Football, he handles all kicking and punting duties for the Owls. The biology major, cited on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, has played in EVERY game of his collegiate career. Last fall, McManus set the season records for punting average (45.8) and extra points made (50). His 98 points scored finished second on the all-time list (behind RB Bernard Pierce). McManus also holds the career record for field goals made (46).
McManus had the most community service events during the 2011-12 academic year with 11. He has participated in the annual Thanksgiving food drive, the Diamond Street clean-up, A Mile in Her Shoes, Read Across America, Owls for the Cure, and the Shore Tour as well as numerous hospital visits and Ronald McDonald House visits.
In 2011, OL Wayne Tribue became the fourth Owl to make the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® since 2003 and the second consecutive honoree. In 2010, linebacker Amara Kamara received the honor.
