PHILADELPHIA (The Phanatic Magazine) – Philadelphia Soul defensive back Kent Richardson was named the AFL's Defensive Back of the Year.
Richardson had a breakout season by setting the Soul record for
interceptions in a single season with 14, surpassing Eddie Moten's 13 in 2005.
In just his second AFL season, Kent has tallied 80 1/2 total tackles, 2.0
tackles for loss, 14 interceptions returned for 178 yards and two
touchdowns, 15 pass breakups, four forced fumbles and two fumble
recoveries.
“I can’t think of a player more deserving of this award,” said Philadelphia Soul head coach Doug Plank. “Kent has worked hard all season, both on and off the field, to not only better himself, but the team as well. The effort and commitment that Kent has shown at his position is a big reason why our team is headed to the ArenaBowl.”
Richardson was also named 2012 First Team All-Arena and is a leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year honors.
