(The Phanatic Magazine) – Rutgers has confirmed that true freshman defensive tackle Jamil Pollard, a product of West Deptford, N.J. High School, has joined the program, transferring from Penn State.
Pollard (6-foot-3, 280) was widely considered one of the Garden State’s top defensive line prospects in the 2012 recruiting class. Pollard amassed 83 tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles in leading West Deptford to a South Jersey Group II title and an 11-1 record as a senior.
As a junior, Pollard registered 56 tackles, four sacks, three forced fumbles and batted down three passes. During his sophomore campaign,Pollard was credited with 58 tackles and three sacks.
Pollard was a two-time All-Courier-Post first-team honoree and a two-time All-South Jersey selection by the Philadelphia Inquirer.
A four-star recruit according to Rivals.com, Pollard was ranked the No. 20 defensive tackle prospect nationally in the class of 2012 and the No. 7 prospect in New Jersey. Rated the No. 10 recruit in the state by the Star-Ledger, Pollard was a three-star prospect by Scout.com and ESPN.com.
