Carter back in the lineup

Philadelphia Flyers leading scorer Jeff Carter made his return to action on Friday against the New York Rangers.

Carter was expected to be sidelined for at least the remainder of the regular season after suffering a non-displaced fracture in his left foot on March 21 while blocking a shot.

Aided by the surgical implant of a screw to assist in healing, Carter was cleared to practice earlier in the week and was in the lineup after missing just eight games. Philly has yet to lock up a playoff berth with a season-ending home-and-home series against the Rangers this weekend looming large.

In 72 games this year, Carter has a team-best 33 goals and is tied with Mike Richards for the team lead with 60 points.
