According to an article on phillies.com, injured outfielder Shane Victorino is close to returning to the field in the form of a rehab assignment. According to the story, Victorino ran at "about 75 to 80 percent" and also caught fly balls on Thursday.
It is now possible that Victorino could begin his rehab this weekend with Double-A Reading, which will be in the neighborhood to play the Trenton Thunder.
"Once I get going full bore, we'll see," Victorino told the Phillies' official site. "Going out there and running balls down and jogging is never game-like. I definitely feel good, though."
Victorino, in his first season as an everyday starter, is batting .284 this year with a career-high 11 homers to go along with 42 RBI. He has also swiped 32 bases while being caught just three times, forming a three-headed speed demon with Jimmy Rollins and Michael Bourn.
"The acceleration part isn't there yet," Victorino said on the site. "I tried to do a couple of jumps [off first base] yesterday and it didn't feel well, but once I got going, it felt good. That's such a big part of my game, so it has to feel good."
