CEO Adam Aron announced that Erving was hired as a part-time strategic advisor during halftime of the team's Game 3 win over Chicago.
Erving, who won the 1983 championship with the team and is the most popular player in franchise history, will serve in the role until at least 2015.
He played 11 seasons for the Sixers, made the Hall of Fame and had his No. 6 retired by the team.
