RICHMOND, Va. – Villanova junior Don Cherry has been named 2014 CAA Football Student-Athlete of the Year, headlining a list of 205 honorees named to the league’s Academic All-Conference Team on Thursday.
Cherry is a standout both in football and in the classroom at Villanova. He carries a cumulative 3.38 GPA while majoring in finance, and was a member of the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Team. Cherry is also a three-time selection to the Villanova Dean’s List, and was chosen as the VU Student-Athlete of the Month last December.
On the field, Cherry posted 134 tackles, 21.5 tackles-for-loss, 10 sacks and five forced fumbles in 2014, ranking among the CAA Football leaders in each category. The impressive statistics earned Cherry a runner-up finish in voting for the Buck Buchanan Award, which honors the top defensive player in the FCS. The linebacker was also named to the AP, Sports Network, College Sporting News and Walter Camp All-America Teams, and the All-CAA Football First Team.
"Don Cherry is the epitome of what a student-athlete should be,” said Villanova head coach Andy Talley. “He is a true All-American who is very deserving of this honor."
Of the 205 CAA Football Academic All-Conference selections, Delaware leads the way with 28 honorees, followed by New Hampshire with 23, and James Madison and Villanova with 20 apiece.

Delaware OT Allard signs with Packers
GREEN BAY, Wisc. -- Shea Allard, a three-year starting offensive tackle for the University of Delaware football squad, has been signed to a National Football League free agent contract by the Green Bay Packers.
Allard, who earned All-American honors this past season in leading Delaware to a 7-4 record, was one of five free agents signed by the 2011 Super Bowl champion Packers following a rookie orientation camp. He was joined by wide receivers Jarrett Boykin of Virginia Tech and Curenski Gilleylen of Nebraska, offensive guard Grant Cook of Arkansas, and cornerback Otis Merrill of Illinois State.
A 6-5, 305 lb. native of Buzzards Bay, Mass. (Wareham High School), becomes the second member of the 2011 Blue Hen squad to earn a shot in the NFL. Starting guard/center Gino Gradkowski was a fourth round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL draft in April.
Allard will be among seven former Blue Hen players in NFL camps this summer, joining Gradkowski, quarterbacks Joe Flacco (Baltimore) and Pat Devlin (Miami), defensive back Mike Adams (Denver) and Anthony Walters (Chicago), and defensive end Ronald Talley?(Arizona).
Allard, 22, was a three-year starter at left tackle for the Blue Hens, appearing in 42 career games with 33 starts. He earned first team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors as a senior and third team All-CAA recognition as a junior. Following the 2011 season, Allard earned a spot on the College Sports Madness All-American third team.
A 2011 hotel and restaurant management graduate of Delaware, Allard led the Blue Hens to a five-year record of 40-23 that included a CAA title and a berth in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision in 2010 when the Hens posted a 12-3 record for head coach K.C. Keeler.
He started all 11 games this past season and led the Hens to a 7-4 record and a No. 17 final national ranking. The Hens, who were ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation early in the season, defeated two Top 10
ranked teams during the year and narrowly missed a spot in the NCAA Tournament. He helped pace an offense that ranked No. 5 in the CAA in sacks alloweds (1.82), rushing offense (165.5 yards per game), and scoring offense (25.8 points per game).

Rutgers tabs Flood to replace Schiano
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Pernetti announced on Tuesday the appointment of Kyle Flood as the 29th head coach at the Birthplace of College Football.
Flood, who served on Rutgers’ coaching staff for the previous seven seasons, assumes the head coaching vacancy created after Greg Schiano resigned his position to become head coach of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
One constant on any coaching staff with Flood is how successful those teams have fared. As an assistant coach, 16 of Flood’s 17 seasons his teams have finished with winning records, including earning a National Championship at Delaware.
The last time Rutgers promoted an assistant coach on staff to the head coaching position was the naming of Frank Burns to replace John Bateman in 1973 — and Burns became the winningest coach in school history.
A highly respected figure in the coaching profession, Flood has served as the assistant head coach of the program since 2008 and has been a key part in Rutgers’ six bowl appearances over his seven-year tenure in Piscataway. In addition to his four years as the assistant head coach, Flood has been in charge of the offensive line since coming to RU in 2005.
Known as an excellent tactician with strong recruiting ties, Flood has served on the coaching staff of the team with the nation’s longest active bowl winning streak at five games. While being part of a program producing victories at a rate unprecedented in Rutgers’ history, Flood has understood the value of academics for the Scarlet Knights. In 2010, Rutgers’ football program ranked first in the nation in Academic Progress Rate and in 2011 the team followed up with the nation’s No. 2 ranking.
During his time 'On the Banks', the Rutgers offensive line has consistently produced top-level talent, including several of which who have gone on to the National Football League. Most recently, Anthony Davis became the highest player ever drafted in Rutgers history as the 11th overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft. Davis has started every game of his two-year career with the San Francisco 49ers at right tackle and helped guide the 49ers to the NFC Championship game this season.
In 2011, Flood helped tutor true freshman right tackle Kaleb Johnson into one of the nation’s premier rookie offensive linemen, earning Freshman All-America honors. In addition, senior offensive guard Art Forst collected All-BIG EAST first team honors while senior offensive guard Desmond Wynn was named to the All-BIG EAST second team.
Since arriving at Rutgers, Flood has coached 10 All-BIG EAST first or second team selections on the offensive line, one All-American and two Freshman All-America honorees.
Flood has helped engineer some of the most potent offenses in Rutgers history – evident in a record-breaking 2007 season. The Scarlet Knights' offensive line ranked second in the nation with just 10 sacks allowed in addition to an RU offense that became the first in NCAA history to have a 3,000-yard passer, 2,000-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers in the same season.
The Rutgers offense was ranked 18th nationally in total offense in 2007. The offensive line featured two of the top tackles in the nation in Pedro Sosa and Jeremy Zuttah. Both players earned All-BIG EAST honors and were also invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, with Zuttah becoming a third round selection by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Flood added run game coordinator to his duties in 2007 and his offensive line helped pave the way for All-American running back Ray Rice, who rushed for a school and then-BIG EAST record 2,012 yards that season. Rice went on to become one of the most-recognizable faces in the NFL en route to consecutive Pro Bowl appearances in 2010 and 2011.
In 2006, Flood coached an offensive line that helped Rutgers to one of its most productive seasons as the group relinquished the fewest sacks in the nation with just eight. His unit was regarded as one of the best in the country and featured Cameron Stephenson and Darnell Stapleton, both who played in the NFL. Flood's corps of hard-nosed blockers helped guide Rice to an All-America season, as he finished second in the nation with 1,794 yards.
Flood came to Rutgers after three seasons at the University of Delaware, where he helped the Blue Hens to a 30-11 record, including a 15-1 mark in 2003 en route to the NCAA FCS National Championship and a share of the Atlantic 10 title in 2004. He also served as assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator during his stint.
Prior to his three seasons at Delaware, Flood was offensive line coach at Hofstra from 1997-2001. While at Hofstra, he helped the Pride earn berths in the NCAA FCS playoffs in 1997 and 1999-2001. The Pride were among the top offensive teams in the nation during his tenure, ranking second in total offense, fourth in passing and fifth in scoring in 2001.

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The annual Battle of the Blue between rivals Villanova and Delaware will be played this year at PPL Park on November 19, as announced today by Villanova Director of Athletics Vince Nicastro.
The Wildcats will host their first-ever game at the home of the Philadelphia Union as they seek to win the Battle of the Blue Trophy for a sixth consecutive year.

Eagles tender four
The Eagles have tendered MLB Stewart Bradley (2nd round compensation), OG Max Jean-Gilles (4th round compensation) and CB Dimitri Patterson (no compensation); and one exclusive rights free agent, RB Eldra Buckley.
The team also announced they have named Matt Nagy offensive quality control coach. The 32-year-old Nagy served as coaches assistant during the 2010 season after spending the 2008 and 2009 training camps as a coaching intern.
A former quarterback for the Arena Football League, Nagy played six seasons for the New York Dragons (2002), Carolina Cobras (2004), Georgia Force (2005-06) and Columbus Destroyers (2007-08). Over his career, Nagy completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 18,866 yards, 374 touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 115.1.
Nagy starred collegiately at Delaware, where he set over 20 career passing records including attempts (895), completions (502), yards (8,214) and touchdowns (58). In addition, he garnered All-America honors as a senior after setting single-season records in attempts (379), yards (3,436) and touchdowns (29).
After graduating from Delaware, Nagy gained coaching experience at several local high schools, as he served as an assistant coach at Manheim Central (2001), the quarterbacks coach at Cedar Crest (2002-03) and the offensive coordinator Palmyra Area HS (2008-09).

Delaware crushes Lehigh in FCS Playoffs
NEWARK, Del. – Lehigh’s memorable season came to an end on Saturday with a 42-20 loss to No. 3 Delaware in front of 13,649 at Delaware Stadium. The Mountain Hawks hung tough with the Blue Hens through 30 minutes but Delaware scored 28 unanswered points in the middle two quarters to break open a one point game.
Junior quarterback Chris Lum threw for a career-high 362 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but Delaware’s Pat Devlin threw for four scores to lead the Blue Hens (10-2) into the quarterfinals where they will face New Hampshire. Lehigh’s most successful season since 2001 ends with a 10-3 mark.
“Obviously today didn’t work out the way we would have liked it to,” said Lehigh head coach Andy Coen. “We knew we were playing an outstanding football team. We knew we were going to have to take advantage of the opportunities that were out there for us. They were a better football team. They were able to break some tackles. Their offense was outstanding, especially Devlin, and they were able to get some big plays on us which we hadn’t been giving up since early in the season.”
Delaware received the opening kickoff and marched down the field 68 yards in 11 plays to take a 7-0 lead. Junior Colin Newton sacked Pat Devlin on third down, but the Blue Hens converted a fourth and ten to keep the drive alive. Andrew Pierce bounced off a tackle and raced around the right side for a five-yard touchdown run for the game’s opening score.
Lehigh answered the Delaware touchdown with a score of its own in similar fashion. The Mountain Hawks drove 70 yards in 11 plays helped by a 23-yard pass from Lum to junior Jake Drwal on fourth and 12. On third and goal, Lum hit sophomore Ryan Spadola for at 13-yard score to tie the game at seven.
The Mountain Hawks’ defense then came up with the game’s first turnover as senior Al Pierce stripped Tommy Crosby after a 17-yard reception and senior Casey Eldemire recovered for Lehigh at its 49. After a nine play drive, Tom Randazza booted a 28-yard FG to give Lehigh a 10-7 lead in the opening seconds of the second quarter.
The Blue Hens answered right back with an 8-play, 60-yard drive. Devlin found Mark Schenauer on a post pattern for a 29-yard touchdown that gave UD a 14-10 advantage.
The punt-less first half continued as Lehigh answered Delaware’s touchdown with Randazza’s second field goal. Senior John Kennedy gave Lehigh good field position with a 41-yard return and after an eight play drive, Randazza kicked a 25-yard field goal to cut the Blue Hens’ lead to one.
Delaware answered the Lehigh field goal with a 10-play 66 yard drive and the Blue Hens added to their lead on a one-yard touchdown pass from Devlin to Chris Campbell.
From there the teams traded punts for the first time before Lehigh put together a drive near the end of the half. The Mountain Hawks worked their way into field goal range, but Lum’s pass was intercepted at the goal line by Anthony Walters and Delaware took a 21-13 lead into the half.
Total yards were close to even through 30 minutes with UD holding s slight 211-205 advantage. Lum was 19-of-27 for 198 yards a touchdown and an interception. Drwal was Lehigh’s leading receiver with seven receptions for 66 yards. The Mountain Hawks rushed for just seven yards in the first half.
“Offensively we did some nice things throwing the ball,” Coen said. “But we weren’t able to finish some key drives. A lot of times we were down in or near the red zone and came away with no points.”
Devlin was 11-of-15 for 158 yards and two scores. Pierce gained 37 yards on seven rushes while Schenauer caught four passes for 97 yards.
The Blue hens were able to extend their lead on their first possession of the second half. After Lehigh went three-and-out, Devlin hit Crosby for a 38-yard touchdown to extend the Delaware lead to 28-13. The lead then grew to 35-13 on a 16-yard run by David Hayes.
Delaware scored its third touchdown of the third quarter when Devlin hit Nihja White over the middle for 20 yards. It was Devlin’s fourth touchdown pass of the game.
On the first drive of the fourth quarter Lehigh got a score back on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Lum to junior Matt Fitz but those would be the last points of the game for either side.
Lum completed a career-high 35-of-58 passes for those 362 yards. He threw two touchdowns and two interceptions. Drwal was his top target with nine receptions for 84 yards, while Fitz added six grabs for 69 yards. The Lehigh ground game never got going with the team mustering just 29 yards on 20 attempts.
Defensively, Lehigh was led by senior Al Pierce who made 13 tackles and forced a fumble in his final game in the Brown and White.
For Delaware, Devlin was an efficient 19-of-26 for 256 yards. Schenauer finished with 113 yards on five receptions, while four other Blue Hens caught three balls each. Pierce rushed 18 times for 88 yards and Hayes added 74 yards on 12 carries. Lehigh held a 26-24 edge in first downs, but Delaware compiled 450 yards of total offense to 391 for the Mountain Hawks.
Lehigh concludes a season in which it won ten games, including its third straight win over rival Lafayette and a first round playoff win over Northern Iowa. The Mountain Hawks will say goodbye to 22 seniors.
“Our kids battled the whole game,” Coen said. “Their effort never waned. We’ve got nothing to be embarrassed about. We had a great season. We won the Patriot League, won ten games and went out and beat the champions of the Missouri Valley Conference. I think we’ll have a good football team coming back next year than can build off this experience.”
EXTRA POINTS… The loss snapped Lehigh’s eight-game win streak which was the longest among active FCS teams… Delaware is now 2-0 versus Lehigh in the NCAA playoffs… both meetings came in the second round after Lehigh defeated a Missouri Valley Conference opponent in the first round… Ryan Spadola capped his 1,000 yard receiving season with five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown… Fitz had six receptions on Saturday, but only five all season prior to the game… junior Mike Groome matched Pierce with 13 tackles… senior John Veniero recovered his fourth fumble of the season… Lehigh’s 42 points allowed were a season-high and the most since Holy Cross scored 59 in 2007… The 42 points were also the second most given up by Lehigh in a postseason game behind the 47 allowed to Delaware in 2000.

Villanova No. 1 in first FCS Poll
Voters in The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25 have chosen 2009 national champion Villanova first in the 2010 preseason poll.
The Wildcats, who won the Football Championship Subdivision title for the first time last December, were installed as a prohibitive No. 1 in the Preseason Top 25 released on Monday. They gained 104 of the 126 first-place votes and 3,112 points.
Montana, which has lost in the last two FCS championship games, was the No. 2 team in the poll with 2,899 points, receiving nine first-place votes. The Grizzlies were followed in the top five by Appalachian State, William & Mary and Southern Illinois.
Villanova will be tested by the competition in the Colonial Athletic Association, which landed the most teams in the Preseason Top 25 with six, all in the top 16. In addition to Villanova and William & Mary, Richmond was sixth, New Hampshire 10th, James Madison 15th and Delaware 16th.
CAA Football has had a national finalist in each of the past four seasons and six of the last seven, including national champions Delaware (2003), James Madison (2004) and Richmond (2008) to go along with coach Andy Talley's Wildcats last season.

Villanova named favorites in CAA
BALTIMORE, Md. (July 28, 2010) -- Villanova, which returns 17 starters from its 2009 NCAA Division I National Championship squad, is the overwhelming pick to win the CAA Football Championship in 2010 according to a vote of the league's 10 head coaches and media relations personnel.
The results of the poll, along with the Preseason All-Conference squads, were officially announced during Wednesday's CAA Football Media Day at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md.
Villanova senior wide receiver/returnman Matt Szczur and senior linebacker Terence Thomas headlined the 2010 CAA Football Preseason All-Conference squad as each were named Preseason Players of the Year.

Delaware's Muir named to USA Basketball Board of Directors
University of Delaware Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Bernard Muir has been appointed by the NCAA to the USA Basketball Board of Directors.
Muir, who will serve on the board through 2012, replaces former NCAA appointee Gene Smith, The Ohio State University Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics, who stepped down.
"I'm excited and honored to be joining the Board of Directors of such a prestigious organization," said Muir. "I've certainly had a passion for the game of basketball my entire life and I'm looking forward to serving with the other members of the USA Basketball Board to help promote and advance the sport throughout our country and the world."
Currently in his first year at the head of the Blue Hens athletic department, Muir served four years (2005-09) as the Director of Athletics at Georgetown University. Prior to Georgetown, Muir spent five years at the University of Notre Dame first as Associate Athletic Director for Student Welfare and Development (2000-03), then as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student Welfare and Development (2003-04) and in his final year (2004-05) Muir was Notre Dame's Deputy Director of Athletics/Administration and Facilities.
The Gainesville, Fla., native began his career in college athletics as a four-year letter winner on the men's basketball team at Brown University, graduating in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in organizational behavior and management. In 1992 he earned a master's degree in sports administration from Ohio University. He spent one year (1990-91) as an athletics administrative assistant at Butler University and worked for the NCAA Division I men's basketball championship as an Assistant Director (1992-98) and Director of Operations (1998-2000).

Villanova players highlight FCS preseason All-American Team
A pair of Villanova players highlighted the 2009 Preseason College Sporting News FCS All-America Team released on Monday.
Offensive tackle Ben Ijalana and linebacker Osayi Osunde earned first team honors as did another pair of local players, Delaware defensive back Anthony Walters and Penn kicker Andrew Samson.
'Nova's jack of all trades, Matt Szczur, was a second-team selection on offense as an all-purpose player. Szczur also made the third team as a return specialist. Penn defensive back Chris Wynn and Delaware safety Charles Graves made the third team defense.
Five Villanova players earned honorable mention status, dual-threat quarterback Chris Whitney, running back Aaron Ball, center Brian Brannigan, offensive guard Jonathan Bugli and defensive end Tim Kukucka.

Four 'Nova players selected to Sports Network's FCS preseason All-American Team
Villanova, which advanced to the national quarterfinals in 2008, had four players selected to the annual Sports Network FCS preseason All-American Team, including First Team honorees in linebacker Osayi Osunde and offensive tackle Ben Ijalana. Third Team defensive end Tim Kukucka and Third Team offensive center Brian Brannigan.

Delaware Supreme Court OKs sports betting
The Delaware Supreme Court has ruled that a proposed sports betting lottery does not conflict with the state's constitution.
The opinion was requested by Gov. Jack Markell, who has signed a bill that would make Delaware the only state east of the Rocky Mountains to offer sports wagering.
In a 22-page ruling dated Wednesday, the court says the state constitution permits lotteries that have an element of skill, as long as chance is the predominant factor in winning or losing.
The NFL opposes the lottery and is expected to challenge the bill.

Swine flu shuts down University of Delaware baseball team
With 10 probable cases of swine flu already identified among University of Delaware students, the school's baseball team decided too cancel a series at North Carolina-Wilmington after one of its players took ill.
The player's name was not released.
Athletic director Edgar Johnson says all decisions are being made on a case-by-case basis.
Delaware's three-game softball series at Hofstra is still scheduled, as is Saturday's Delaware Open track meet.

Penn State's Devlin to transfer
Penn State announced that sophomore quarterback Pat Devlin intends to transfer.
Devlin will not participate with the team in the Rose Bowl against USC on January 1.
The Altoona Mirror is reporting that Devlin is considering transferring to am FCS school, with Delaware, James Madison and Villanova on his list.
Devlin set the Pennsylvania Hugh School career passing record with 8,162 yards at Downingtown East.

Browns claim OL Young
The Cleveland Browns were awarded offensive lineman Scott Young off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles Monday.
Young spent the past three seasons with the Eagles as a backup guard and appeared in 13 career games. He was originally a fifth round draft choice of the Eagles in 2005 out of Brigham Young. Young played in a career-high 12 games and two postseason contests with the Eagles in 2006.
To make room for Young on the roster, the Browns waived offensive lineman Nathan Bennett.
Cleveland also signed former Delaware star running back Omar Cuff to its practice squad.

NFL Draft '08 - Top Small College Players

Fast athletically gifted small college corner had a tremendous postseason that has elevated his stock into the mid first round area. Dominique had huge performances at both the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine that moved him into the top 15 prospects and possibly the top ten of this draft class. Top 15 prospect off his fine measurables, skills set and terrific postseason. He carries an early starting grade, probably as a rookie with incredible upside as a corner to become among the best in the game and Pro Bowl performer. Mid 1st round prospect and best blue chip small college corner from that level since Rashean Mathis
2. QB Joe Flacco #5 - 6'6" 235 lbs. - Delaware - Sp. 4.8
Big strong armed senior QB has started the past two seasons after transferring from Pittsburgh. Joe displays all the physical talent to become a pro starting QB. He had a tremendous senior performance that led Delaware into the D 1AA finals. He has the big arm with excellent strength and fine throwing technique. For such a tall passer, his delivery is surprisingly compact and sound that allows him to make a quick release to deliver the ball in excellent timing. He has a strong live arm and get the ball into tight windows with very good accuracy. This guy could be the gem of this fine QB class and should be a top 40 selection. He has all the talent and intangibles to become a fine pro starter once he develops in a system. With time to develop as a passer and learn an offense, he is quality athlete who is capable of being a huge surprise over time. Best small college passer since Tony Romo who I loved in the NFL Draft ’03, though he was not drafted. Flacco probably goes in the early 2nd round with the Ravens, Jaguars, Lions and Bears all interested.
3. Antwaun Molden #17 - 6’1” 200 lbs. - Eastern Kentucky - Sp. 4.40
Big athletic cornerback completed an impressive finish to his career after starting his college stay at Toledo. Antwaun transferred to Eastern Kentucky after only one season of play, starting since midway during his sophomore ’05 season. He is one of the real hidden gems in this class after a strong late career in the Ohio Valley Conference that drew attention from scouts after seeing his triangle numbers. At the NFL Combine, he checked in at just under 6’1” and 198 lbs. He ran 4.39 and 4.41 times and did 23 reps in the lifting. He did a 37.5” VL and a 10’9” BJ with 4.14 short shuttle and a 6.85 three cone times that were excellent agility drills. It was an outstanding workout that a small college prospect needs to get attention. He is similar to NFL cover man Charles Tillman in size, AA, level of development, versatility and upside potential. He started only two seasons+ with only 25 starts at the Division 1AA level to his credit. Last spring, he finished 2nd to Dominique Cromartie in OVC track sprint.
4. Brandon Keith #54 - 6’5” 340 lbs. - Northern Iowa - Sp. 5.25
Huge tackle prospect had a strong finish to his career that earned him honors in the Gateway conference after starting his career at Oklahoma. Brandon is a long armed gifted tackle or guard prospect who began to open some eyes over the latter part of his senior season. He finished with a fine performance at the Texas vs the Nation All-Star game that elevated his grade further. He is a legit right tackle prospect with tremendous bulk, footwork and mobility. At this point, he is likely to be drafted ahead of his more heralded teammate, Chad Rinehart. He has surprisingly sound technique in many aspect of play and is one of the biggest sleepers in this class. He could become a real gem in the right situation with further development and a big commitment from him to refine his excellent physical package and skill set. At the combine, he ran a fine 5.27 time at 343 lbs. with a 26” VJ and did 31 reps in the lifting. He has drawn comparisons to NFL lineman Orlando “Zeus” Brown, a former starting NFL right side tackle. Major sleeper with the talent to become a starting right tackle with further work and though a late gamble, he is one that could pay huge dividends if a coach can push the right buttons and this prospect focuses on football to realize his amazing potential.
5. Arman Shields #14 - 6’1” 195 lbs. - Richmond - Sp. 4.45
Fast agile small college receiver played in only the early games as a senior due to a knee injury. Arman rehabbed his knee quickly to participate in the NFL Combine where he had a huge workout that has him moving up pro teams draft boards. In the ’07 opener vs Vanderbilt, he totaled 107 receiving yards before going down with a season ending knee injury in the following game. At the NFL Combine, he checked in at just under 6’!” and 194 lbs and ran a fast 4.44 time with 19 reps, a 37.5 VL and a 10'8" BJ in a terrific workout that a small college prospect and an injured player needs to produce to impress scouts. He has shown the deceptive speed to get behind the secondary and make the big play. He displays very good hands, fine body control to track and adjust to the ball in flight and has been able to get deep and hit the home. At the combine, he ran 4.44 and 4.49 times with 37.5” VL and a 10’8” BJ. Athlete with an excellent combination of size, speed and receiving skills to be a huge surprise in the right offense and fine late pick with intriguing upside.
6. Kendall Langford #98 - 6'5" 285 lbs. - Hampton - Sp. 4.8
Big rangy senior defender had another strong performance for the tough Hampton program that earned him first team MEAC honors for the third consecutive year. He has the size, speed, instincts and toughness to play several positions on pro front lines both inside and outside. He has established himself as a complete pro prospect using his fine functional strength and quick hands to perform well in both pass and run defense with the ability to hold the point of attack and chase in pursuit. He is one of the better physical specimens among ends in this class with very long arms to go with his good height and muscular well-built frame. He looks the part, both from an athletic standpoint and mental aptitude, with the production in big games that earned him an invite to the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine where he had very good workouts.

He started only two seasons+ with only 25 starts at the Division 1AA level to his credit. Last spring, he finished 2nd to Dominique Cromartie in OVC track sprint.
4. Brandon Keith #54 - 6’5” 340 lbs. - Northern Iowa - Sp. 5.25
Huge tackle prospect had a strong finish to his career that earned him honors in the Gateway conference after starting his career at Oklahoma. Brandon is a long armed gifted tackle or guard prospect who began to open some eyes over the latter part of his senior season. He finished with a fine performance at the Texas vs the Nation All-Star game that elevated his grade further. He is a legit right tackle prospect with tremendous bulk, footwork and mobility. At this point, he is likely to be drafted ahead of his more heralded teammate, Chad Rinehart. He has surprisingly sound technique in many aspect of play and is one of the biggest sleepers in this class. He could become a real gem in the right situation with further development and a big commitment from him to refine his excellent physical package and skill set. At the combine, he ran a fine 5.27 time at 343 lbs. with a 26” VJ and did 31 reps in the lifting. He has drawn comparisons to NFL lineman Orlando “Zeus” Brown, a former starting NFL right side tackle. Major sleeper with the talent to become a starting right tackle with further work and though a late gamble, he is one that could pay huge dividends if a coach can push the right buttons and this prospect focuses on football to realize his amazing potential.
5. Arman Shields #14 - 6’1” 195 lbs. - Richmond - Sp. 4.45
Fast agile small college receiver played in only the early games as a senior due to a knee injury. Arman rehabbed his knee quickly to participate in the NFL Combine where he had a huge workout that has him moving up pro teams draft boards. In the ’07 opener vs Vanderbilt, he totaled 107 receiving yards before going down with a season ending knee injury in the following game. At the NFL Combine, he checked in at just under 6’!” and 194 lbs and ran a fast 4.44 time with 19 reps, a 37.5 VL and a 10'8" BJ in a terrific workout that a small college prospect and an injured player needs to produce to impress scouts. He has shown the deceptive speed to get behind the secondary and make the big play. He displays very good hands, fine body control to track and adjust to the ball in flight and has been able to get deep and hit the home. At the combine, he ran 4.44 and 4.49 times with 37.5” VL and a 10’8” BJ. Athlete with an excellent combination of size, speed and receiving skills to be a huge surprise in the right offense and fine late pick with intriguing upside.
6. Kendall Langford #98 - 6'5" 285 lbs. - Hampton - Sp. 4.8
Big rangy senior defender had another strong performance for the tough Hampton program that earned him first team MEAC honors for the third consecutive year. He has the size, speed, instincts and toughness to play several positions on pro front lines both inside and outside. He has established himself as a complete pro prospect using his fine functional strength and quick hands to perform well in both pass and run defense with the ability to hold the point of attack and chase in pursuit. He is one of the better physical specimens among ends in this class with very long arms to go with his good height and muscular well-built frame. He looks the part, both from an athletic standpoint and mental aptitude, with the production in big games that earned him an invite to the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine where he had very good workouts.

NFL Draft - Top 20 quarterbacks

Positional Overview: Quarterbacks - Grade B
This is an above-average class with good upside if the young passers continue to develop. Several top prospects, including seniors Matt Ryan and Brian Brohm should be first-round selections. Ryan will likely be taken in the top 5 selections. Passers like Chad Henne, Andre Woodson and John David Booty were impressive during the Senior Bowl practices and game that elevated them into the first two rounds. Delaware's Joe Flacco is an interesting small-college prospect. He made major strides this fall, and impressed scouts with a big arm at the Senior Bowl. He makes this a special group after also impressing at his workout at the NFL Combine.
Quarterbacks
1. Matt Ryan 6-5, 225 4.90 Boston College
Strong armed senior held the #1 rating with a big week at the NFL Combine. He will throw at his pro day and is doing all the right things to be a very early 1st round pick.
2. Brian Brohm 6-3, 230 4.85 Louisville
Slick throwing senior shows the complete package to become a fine NFL starter and had a decent workout at the combine. He needs to impress at his pro day throwing the ball to stay in the first round.
3. Chad Henne 6-3, 230 4.80 Michigan
Talented senior answered questions about his injury riddled final season with a huge performance at the Senior Bowl. He had a good week in Indy.
4. Andre' Woodson 6-4, 230 4.85 Kentucky
Big athletic senior carried the Wildcats over recent seasons. He has been slipping in the rankings and opted out of workouts in Indy. He had a strong pro day performance that helped answer key questions.
5. Joe Flacco 6-6, 230 4.90 Delaware
Strong armed small college passer was impressive throwing the ball at the Senior Bowl week and has moved up the rankings further. He impressed further in Indy.
6. John David Booty 6-2, 215 4.95 Southern Cal
Savvy senior passer had a strong ’07 finish and completed an impressive week at the Senior Bowl.
7. Erik Ainge 6-6, 225 5.05 Tennessee
Tall rangy senior passer flashes big play ability late in the Senior Bowl that earned him high raves by scouts.
8. Colt Brennan 6-2, 205 4.85 Hawaii
Record setting passer participated in only the passing drills at the NFL Combine and looked fairly sharp. His subpar week at the Senior Bowl must be answered with a big performance at his pro day.
9. Josh Johnson 6-2, 195 4.55 San Diego University
Talented small college passer had a big week at the East-West week, showcasing fine overall skills for the position. His workout in Indy showed he belonged with the top prospects at the position.
10. Alex Brink 6-2, 210 4.90 Washington St
Underrated prospect displays a live arm with good size and instincts for the position. He looked sharp in the drills at the NFL Combine.
11. Kevin O'Connell 6-5, 225 4.60 San Diego St
Huge athletic senior had a fine workout in Indy that has scouts viewing his game tapes over past two seasons.
12. Sam Keller 6-4, 235 4.90 Nebraska
Athletic senior was having a strong final season in his first year before a shoulder injury ended his career. He had a decent week at the NFL Combine.
13. Paul Smith 6-1, 210 4.90 Tulsa
Efficient senior passer completed a fine career and impressed scouts with his well rounded skills at two All-star games.
