The fallout on the offensive line continues for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Less than 24 hours after the shocking, sudden retirement announcement by OL Lane Johnson for undisclosed reasons, the Birds dealt struggling center Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a 5th-round pick in 2027 and a second-rounder in 2028.
Also heading down 95 South is a 7th-round choice in '27.
Jurgens had been a Pro Bowl level center for the last two seasons, but was pressed into duty this year at left guard thanks to an injury to usual starter Landon Dickerson. In April of '25, two months after helping the Eagles win their second Super Bowl and fifth championship in franchise history, he was rewarded with a 4-year contract extension.
Per a recent column by Jeff McLane of The Inquirer focusing on Johnson's experience, Jurgens had lost confidence in himself to ably perform at a high level.
However, like Johnson. And Jason Kelce. And Fletcher Cox. And Dickerson -- it appears years of battle caused Jurgens' body to fail him first, before his mind.
Timing of the move is certainly interesting, given Jurgens self-reported concussion symptoms on Monday morning, one day after the Eagles' 24-20 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He was in concussion protocol, according to several sources, but no other details were available ahead of the trade announcement.
It appears that Willie Lampkin will be shuttled into the open spot beginning Sunday.
Jurgens, a 27-year-old native of Nebraska who played college ball for the Cornhuskers, was taken in the 2nd round of the 2022 draft and subsequently appeared in 62 games (45 starts) over the last 5 seasons. He leaves a club sputtering at 2-2 heading into a London date with the Jacksonville Jaguars, to a Ravens team sitting at 3-1 heading into a Sunday night tussle in Atlanta.
