PHILADELPHIA - Former Saint Joseph's players C.J. Aiken and Carl Jones have recently signed contracts to continue their playing careers professionally.
Aiken will be attending training camp with the Sacramento Kings. He played for the Kings in the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 4.6 points and 2.6 rebounds.
The 6-foot-9 forward left Saint Joseph's after his junior year to pursue a pro career. Aiken averaged 10.4 points last season and ended his career with 319 blocked shots to rank second on the Hawks' all-time list.
Jones will begin his career in Poland and play for WKS Slask Wroclaw of the Tauron Basket Liga (TBL). The season opens in October.
Jones, an All-Big 5 third team selection in 2013, topped the Hawks in scoring for three consecutive years, averaging 14.7 as a senior. He finished his career as the third leading scorer in SJU history with 1,845 points.
Other former Hawks continuing their careers overseas this season are Darrin Govens, Pat Calathes and Rob Ferguson. Govens, who played last year in Israel, will be playing for Ikaros in Greece. Calathes, who has previously played in Greece and Israel, will join BC Astana in Kazakstan. Ferguson will return to Germany and play for Karlsruhe.
