Union to host FC Schalke 04 at PPL Park
Chester, Pa. (The Phanatic Magazine) – The Philadelphia Union announced today that the team will host Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 on Wednesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. at PPL Park.
One of the most popular teams in Germany, Schalke currently sits in third place in the Bundesliga and are just one win away from a top four finish and a spot in the Champions League next season.
Schalke features such stars as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, currently ranked second in the Bundesliga in scoring, Spanish legend Raul and U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Jermaine Jones.
"Over the last two years we have hosted top English, Mexican, Spanish and Scottish clubs to play the Union,” said Nick Sakiewicz, Philadelphia Union CEO & Operating Partner. “Now it is only fitting that we bring one of Germany's top Bundesliga clubs to the Greater Philadelphia region for the first time for our fans to enjoy. Schalke 04 is a club with rich European history and we are honored to welcome them and the German community.”
Schalke is the first of two international opponents to visit PPL Park this season, as the Union will also host Aston Villa of the Barclays Premier League on July 18.
