VILLANOVA, Pa. – Junior guard Maalik Wayns suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee during Tuesday night’s 74-72 victory over Providence. Wayns underwent an MRI on Wednesday and was evaluated today by Villanova Team Orthopedist Dr. Rob Good of Main Line Health System.
“It will be a day-by-decision,” stated Good of Wayns’ return to the court.
Wayns spent the final 11:31 of the Wildcats’ comeback win on Tuesday evening on the sidelines after suffering the injury.
“The No. 1 concern for all of us is Maalik’s long-term health,” stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. “We will be conservative with his rehab and recovery from this setback.”
Wayns leads the Wildcats in scoring at 17.8 ppg and was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Jan. 23. He did not participate in this morning’s team practice at the Davis Center.
Villanova is idle until it meets USF on Feb. 15 at the Tampa Times Forum at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN2/ESPN 950 Radio).
