Philly stars in AHL attendance records

In an official weekly release from the American Hockey League, the city of Philadelphia featured very prominently.

A recap of the 12 best-attended games in the NHL's primary development league revealed that the Quaker City hold by itself four of those records.

The top spot, of course, was the 2012 AHL Outdoor Classic at Citizens Bank Park between the Phantoms and Bears, which drew a whopping 45,653 on January 6.

Next on the list at #6 was a crowd of 19,730 at the then-First Union Center on 2/10/2001 when the Phantoms hosted the Syracuse Crunch, followed by #7 in the same building on February 28, 1999 in a tilt against Kentucky when 19,532 showed up, then #8 occurred on 11/20/98 when the Hartford Wolf Pack came to town and was viewed by 18,907.

The Phantoms don't return to Philadelphia until a February 22 meeting with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
