Surprise news late this evening, from Howard Eskin of Fox 29.
Dan Quinn, who spent 14 years in the NHL with multiple teams, including two stints for the Flyers in the 90s, has returned to the Delaware Valley as the caddy for Ernie Els as the South African plays Merion later this week.
The 48-year-old Canadian had served as a part-time caddy for Els since 2009, but was bumped up to full-time status at the outset of 2013. He is set to accompany Els for at least 10 tournaments this year. Both men are residents of Jupiter, Florida -- a town on the Atlantic Ocean also serving as home base for former Phillies Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt.
Quinn, an avid golfer who perfected his game over hundreds of rounds during his time spent in Pittsburgh alongside friend and teammate Mario Lemieux, dressed in Orange and Black for the 1991-92 season as well as the end of the 1995-96 campaign.
He totaled 18 goals and 40 assists in 102 regular-season appearances, with one goal and five points in the '96 postseason.
