The second edition of the Penn State-Vermont on-ice rivalry will take place on Saturday, October 26 at Wells Fargo Center.
It will mark the second time these programs face each other in Philadelphia, with PSU recording a 4-2 victory over the Catamounts back on January 19. That contest, scheduled well ahead of any hint of the NHL's lockout, was compromised when the league decided to feature the Penguins and Flyers earlier that afternoon and actual attendance clearly suffered as a result.
Why these schools? Penn State has thousands of alumni living in the Delaware Valley, while Vermont features one Nick Luukko, son of Peter Luukko.
Neither school made the NCAA Tournament last season, but next year will be the second for the Nittany Lions in D-I hockey as well as their first in the newly-created Big Ten conference. Vermont plays in Hockey East, which features national champions (BC '08, '10, '12 and BU in '09) in four of the last six seasons.
