Some good news for Flyers fans still bitter over the absences of Jeff Carter, Simon Gagne and Ian Laperriere...
Boston Bruins forward Marco Sturm will miss the remainder of the playoffs with a knee injury, the club revealed on Sunday.
The Bruins said Sturm suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee. He is expected to undergo surgery within the next 4-to-6 weeks and will need about six months to recover.
Sturm was hurt in the first period of Saturday's Eastern Conference semifinal opener, a 5-4 overtime victory. He went to check Flyers defenseman Matt Carle and got his leg tangled up, then attempted to skate toward the middle of the ice but fell to his knees and had to be helped off by teammates.
A major injury to Sturm's left knee forced him to miss a significant portion of the 2008-09 season.
Sturm, who failed to register a point in Boston's first seven playoff games, led the offensively-challenged Bruins with 22 goals this season and added 15 assists for 37 points. Boston had the fewest goals of any team that qualified for this spring's playoffs.
