35 Reasons to Believe

The Phanatic Magazine kicked off its 35 straight days of Phillies on Sunday, one article per day detailing each member battling for position as the season begins. Also, look for Michael Rushton's season outlook, which will cap the offseason look at the Phillies on Opening Day -- April 2nd against Atlanta.
DAY 3 : JUSTIN GERMANO
By John Gottlieb
Justin Germano begins his first full season with the Phils after being acquired at last year’s trading deadline from Cincinnati for Rheal Cormier.
Before coming to Philly, Germano was 8-6 with a 3.69 earned run average, 67 strikeouts and 22 walks in 19 games – 18 starts – with the Triple-A Louisville Bats. However, he did give up 11 homers. He had one stint with the Reds, going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in two contests, including one start.
After the trade he spent the rest of the season with Triple-A Scranton and compiled a 2-0 record with a 2.82 ERA, 25 strikeouts and two walks in six starts.
The 24-year-old righty has got great command of the strike zone with an exceptional curveball and changeup but his fastball leaves something to be desired.
Germano could be a useful back of the rotation pitcher, but since the Phillies have an excess of starters he may see limited time out the bullpen. Germano is at best a long shot to head up north with the Phillies when they leave Florida in 30 days.
