The Wachovia Complex ranked fifth in the world and second in the US for highest grossing facilities for the first six months of 2009, according to Venues Today.
The Complex, which is comprised of the 21,000-seat WachoviaCenter and the soon-to-close 19,000-seat Wachovia Spectrum, hosted a combined 66 events, grossing $27,117,507 and drawing 514,551 patrons.
In the U.S., the Wachovia Complex was second to New York's Madison Square Garden which hosted 54 events, grossing $34,382,025 and drawing 583,879 patrons during the same time frame.
Venues Today compiled these numbers for world-wide arenas with at least 15,001 seats or more. The O2 Arena in London finished first in the world, followed by the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario; MSG; AcerArena in Sydney, Australia; Wachovia Complex; the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, FL; Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA; Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA; Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV; and Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

Jackson played Spectrum 5 times
According to the good folks at Comcast-Spectacor Michael Jackson performed five different times at the Spectrum, all with his brothers, as the Jackson Five.

Britney scheduled for Wachovia Center
This is not sports related by the good folks at The Wachovia Center sent along a note saying Britney Spears will be bringing her CIRCUS tour to the Wachovia Center on Sunday, August 30 at 7 p.m..
Tickets priced at $39.50, $49.50, $98, $128, $153, $198, $353, and $498 will go on sale on Friday, June 19 at 10 a.m. exclusively via www.ComcastTIX.com, 1-800-298-4200, the Wachovia Center Box Office, or select ACME locations.

Wachovia Center loses out in bid for best sports facility

Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis was named Facility of the Year at the Sports Business Journal Awards last night, edging out the Wachovia Center.
