(The Phanatic Magazine) - Desperate times often call for desperate measures and the Philadelphia Union are buying into that hypothesis.
A month into the MLS season the Union are winless (0-3-2) and at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table so team manager Jim Curtin made the call to bench goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi for Saturday's home game against New York City FC.
Mbolhi played a large part in the club's 3-2 late-game implosion at Sporting Kansas City on Sunday and has allowed nine goals on 20 shots this season, by far the lowest save percentage among all starters in MLS.
Either Andre Blake, who is now back in training after undergoing off-season knee surgery, or John McCarthy will start in place of Mbolhi against NYC FC.
