More fallout from Friday's 7-0 drubbing at the hands of the Washington Capitals, and it came on the injury front.
Newly-acquired Steve Downie is still in hospital following a concussion suffered in a third-period bout with Aaron Volpatti, while Vincent Lecavalier is on the mend after his losing battle against Steve Oleksy.
Downie will be out indefinitely, while Lecavalier is day-to-day with a facial contusion but is expected to be in the lineup by Tuesday, per Paul Holmgren on Saturday afternoon. Just prior to game time, Holmgren denied reports to a small media assemblage that Downie had a broken orbital bone, but did say his face was swollen from the after-effects of taking punches.
That's bad news as the club heads up the Jersey Turnpike for the second of this weekend's back-to-back at Prudential Center against the New Jersey Devils.
Tye McGinn has been recalled from Adirondack for tonight's game. Paul Holmgren will have a full injury update later today.
Word has also drifted down from Canada that there will be no supplemental discipline for the third-period line brawl as a whole, one which included backup Ray Emery pummeling his counterpart Braden Holtby -- as it should be.
