CHICAGO, Ill. (November 4, 2011) –
Philadelphia Union forward Jack McInerney, midfielder Amobi Okugo and
defender Sheanon Williams will join the U-23 U.S.
Men’s National Team for a nine-day camp in Germany, U.S. Soccer
announced today. The Union group departs for national team duty on
Sunday, November 6 as they join Head Coach Caleb Porter to prepare for
Olympic Qualifying in 2012.
All three
players have significant Youth National Team experience as well as were
graduates of the U.S. Soccer’s U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton,
Fla. Okugo last joined the National Team at the
U-20 level when they competed in the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in
Guatemala from March 28 to April 19. McInerney’s last appearance with
the U-20 National Team came in December 2010, as the group met at
Sunrise, Fla., from December 12-19. Williams was
last a member of the National Team in July 2008 Milk Cup in Northern
Ireland.
The camp will be held from November 7-16 at the Sportschule Wedau, a German sporting school where the players will train and reside during their stay. Union Assistant Coach and Goalkeeper Coordinator Rob Vartughian will be a member of the coaching staff appointed by Head Coach Porter for this camp.
