Former Pennsbury High standout Dalton Pepper, who played the last two seasons at West Virginia University, has signed a men’s basketball scholarship agreement to attend Temple University. The Mountaineer transfer will sit out the 2011-12 season per NCAA rules and have two years of eligibility remaining starting with the 2012-13 season.
“Dalton is a fine young man from a wonderful family," said Temple head coach Fran Dunphy. "He is a tremendousj addition to our basketball program and we are looking forward to great things from him during his Temple career.”
The 6-5, 230-pound small forward scored a school-record 2,207 points and grabbed 962 rebounds in leading the Falcons to four straight undefeated league seasons. The three-time all-state selection and two-time Courier Times Player of the Year capped his incredible career at Pennsbury by being named the 2009 Pennsylvania Big School Player of the Year by the Associated Press.
At West Virginia, Pepper played in 62 games, starting once. He averaged 3.5 points and 10.1 minutes per game helping WVU to 53 wins and a trip to the 2010 Final Four. He scored a career-high 15 points in 20 minutes of action off the bench against Syracuse as a freshman on Jan. 16, 2010. A prolific three-point shooter, he connected on 41 treys on 123 attempts (.333) in his two seasons at West Virginia.
Temple returns four starters from last season’s team that posted a 26-8 record and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to second-seed San Diego State, 71-64, in double-overtime.
