Phillies outfielder Laynce Nix was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left calf strain.
To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, left-hander Jake Diekman was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Also, right-hander Justin De Fratus (right elbow sprain) was transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL, while right-hander Brian Sanches was outrighted to Lehigh Valley.
Left-hander Raúl Valdes and infielder Hector Luna also had their contracts selected from Lehigh Valley and will join the Phillies prior to tonight’s game against the San Diego Padres.
Nix, 31, is batting .326 with six doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI in 22 games (10 starts) with the Phillies this season, including a .393 average (11-for-28) over his last 13 games. He has appeared in games at both first base (6 G) and left field (4 G).
Diekman went 1-0 with five saves and a 0.59 ERA in 13 games for Lehigh Valley, including 22 strikeouts and just three walks in 15.1 innings. The 25-year-old did not allow a run in 12 of his 13 games with the IronPigs, including each of his last six appearances (6.2 IP).
Sanches, 33, went 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA in three relief appearances for the Phillies this season.
Valdes, 34, posted a 1-2 record with one save and a 3.86 ERA in 11 games with Lehigh Valley. The La Habana, Cuba, native has appeared in 51 major league games in his career between the Mets (2010), Cardinals (2011) and Yankees (2011), going 3-4 with a 4.58 ERA.
Luna, 32, hit .274 with eight doubles, one triple, one home run and 12 RBI in 29 games with the IronPigs this season. In 311 career major league games with the Cardinals (2004-06), Indians (2006), Blue Jays (2007) and Marlins (2010), Luna has a .265 average with 39 doubles, six triples, 13 HR and 86 RBI.
Additionally, left-hander Joe Savery was optioned to Lehigh Valley following Wednesday night’s game against the New York Mets.
