Soul's Hughley is AFL's Ironman of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - Soul WR/KR Jeff Hughley has been named the AFL Ironman of the Week for his performance this past Sunday in the Soul’s 63-62 victory in their season opener against the New Orleans VooDoo.

Hughley finished the day with 265 yards on 10 kick returns, including one for a touchdown.  He also caught four passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns.  The impressive outing set several team records, including the single-game record for all-purpose yards (360), eclipsing Charles Pauley’s mark of 277 yard set on May 5, 2007.

“No one works harder on our team to get better than Jeff does.  He’s very deserving of the award,” said Soul head coach Doug Plank.  “His explosiveness on special teams can’t be underappreciated.  Whether it be scoring on a big return or setting up a short field for our offense.  He adds a whole new dimension to our game.”

The effort also saw Hughley set the team’s single-game record for kickoff return yards (265), shattering the previous record set by Mike Brown (196) on March 1, 2008 against the Orlando Predators.  Hughley also tied Brown’s record for most kickoff returns (10) in a single game.  Brown set the mark on April 12, 2008 against the San Jose SaberCats.

The Soul return to action when they take on the Pittsburgh Power this Friday, March 23 at 8 p.m. at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh on the NFL Network’s “NET10 Arena Football Friday”.
