UFC cuts Leites after loss in Philly

The UFC has released middleweight Thales Leites from his deal after his split-decision loss to Alessio Sakara at UFC 101 in Philadelphia last Saturday.

Leites (14-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) lost a lackluster unanimous-decision to the current middleweight king, Anderson Silva, just four months ago.

Tamdan McCrory, Danillo Villefort and Ultimate Fighter contestants George Roop and Dan Cramer were also cut after coming up on the wrong end of fights at UFC 101.

McCrory dropped a close split-decision loss to John Howard while Roop was outmatched against George Sotiropolous en route to a nasty kimura loss, and Cramer fell to Matt Riddle.

Villefort didn't deserve his fate. The welterweight fell to Jesse Lennox by TKO at 3:37 of Round 3 after Villefort got cut when their heads clashed while on the ground grappling.
