Sixers Week playoff happenings

Philadelphia, Pa. – April 17, 2009 – The Philadelphia 76ers are running into the 2009 NBA Playoffs – which returns to the Wachovia Center on Friday, April 24 against the Orlando Magic – and will coordinate a week-long series of events to get the city and fans fired up during “Sixers Week.”

Throughout the week, the Sixers will activate these events via several popular social networking sites in the following ways:

Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Philadelphia-PA/Philadelphia-76ers-Official/52974817515): Sixers fans will have the opportunity to join other fans from around the city, state, country and world to participate in an online discussion about the team and playoffs.

Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sixersphotos): The Sixers page on the popular photo sharing site will allow fans to display their team pride throughout the team’s run through the post-season.

MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/philadelphia76ers) and YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/sixers): Fans are encouraged to submit their custom-made songs, highlight videos or other expressions of their passion for the Sixers via the team’s pages on these two sites.

twitter (http://twitter.com/sixers): You can get inside information about the team during practices and the games via the SMS messaging site, but you will also receive special messages from Hip-Hop, who will spread the playoff hype by sending “tweets” stating his whereabouts throughout the day on Thursday, April 23. Followers of the Sixers will have the opportunity to receive prizes when they come to the location and identify themselves as a “Sixers twitter Follower”.

Monday, Apr. 20

76 Free Fill-ups at Lukoil – 12:00 p.m. – Lukoil Station (Delaware Ave. & Spring Garden, Philadelphia, PA)

The first 76 cars to line-up outside Lukoil on Monday will receive FREE gas in support of the Sixers playoff run. Fans are allowed to begin lining up in their cars at the station heading north on Delaware Ave. at 9:00 a.m.

Tuesday, Apr. 21

Sixers Supermarket Sweep - 12:00 p.m. - ACME (121 City Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA)

Hip-Hop, the Hare Raisers and Sixers Dancers will be on hand for an on-site raffle where one lucky winner will be awarded a 76-second shopping spree! The winner will race through the aisles at ACME, filling their cart with as many free groceries as they can during the allotted time.

Sixers Dancers Bowl-Off – 7:00-9:00 p.m. – Pinsetter Bar and Bowl (7111 Maple Avenue, Pennsauken, NJ)
Fans are encouraged to visit SIXERS.COM to bid on the chance to bowl with two Sixers Dancers during the Sixers Dancers Bowl-Off! All proceeds will go to Sixers Charities. Each winning bid gets one game of bowling for four people with the Sixers Dancers, four T-shirts, four hats and four Sixers Dancers calendars.

Wednesday, Apr. 22

Pep Rally featuring Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter during Sixers T-Shirt Tour – 11:00-2:00 p.m. – Broad Street/Comcast Center (1701 JFK Blvd, Philadelphia, PA)

Sixers Public Address Announcer Matt Cord, Hip-Hop, Hare Raisers, Sixers Dancers and staff will ride on a double-decker tour bus and travel from the Wachovia Center down Broad Street and will give away 76ers T-Shirts. The tour culminates with a stop outside of the Comcast Center at 12:00 p.m., where Mayor Michael Nutter will be on-hand to share his excitement on the 76ers playoff run.

Thursday, Apr. 23

Random Acts of Hip-Hop Hype – 12:00-2:00 p.m. – Citywide “hot spots”

Hip-Hop and the Hare Raisers will load the “Hare-a-Van” to travel around Philadelphia handing out Sixers hats and Hip-Hop dolls. Their route will include the Reading Terminal Market, City Hall, as well as various locations along South and Market Streets.

Friday, Apr. 24

Lids for Lankenau – 12:00 p.m. – Lankenau Hospital (100 Lancaster Avenue, Wynnewood, PA)

Hip-Hop and the Hare Raisers along with Sixers Dancers will distribute Sixers hats to oncology patients at Lankenau Hospital. They will then drop off hats to Doctors in the cafeteria before they wrap up their visit.
