Angle arrested in Pennsylvania

Pro wrestler Kurt Angle was arrested in Moon Township, Penn. on charges of drunken driving and careless driving last Friday.

Police allege that a fellow motorist called to report a Cadillac Escalade driving erratically and furnished a license number.

Police used the license number to track the vehicle back to Angle, who appeared to be intoxicated when police arrived at his house. Angle subsequently failed a field sobriety test.

Angle did admit to police that he used the vehicle to drive home from a bar but refused a blood test.

The 38-year-old Angle won a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics and is a former World Wrestling Entertainment champion who currently wrestles for the Nashville-based Total Nonstop Action wrestling promotion.

Angle was reportedly released from WWE over problems with prescription killers. He also served a 3o-day suspension while under contract to WWE for failing a steroid test.

Angle's attorneys issued a statement to tmz.com after news of the arrest.

"Kurt Angle maintains his innocence relative to the charges brought by the police in this matter. The improper arrest occurred in the middle of the afternoon after Mr. Angle showed no signs of intoxication. The police have no blood alcohol content and not firsthand knowledge of his operation of his vehicle. We believe the motivation for this arrest is based upon Kurt Angle's celebrity status and we are confident that we will prevail when the truth becomes evident."
