Garcia, Victorino on the mend

The Phillies currently have nine players on the disabled list. Here is an update for each one.

C Rod Barajas
Injury: Strained right groin (out since August 3)
Update: Will begin a tossing and hitting program today and could be ready for a rehabilitation assignment in one week, if necessary.

OF Michael Bourn
Injury: Sprained left ankle (out since July 31)
Update: Was seen by Phillies Team Physician Dr. Michael Ciccotti yesterday and could be ready for a rehabilitation assignment in two to three weeks.

RHP Freddy Garcia
Injury: Right shoulder strain (out since June 9)
Update: Currently in a rehab program in Clearwater, Garcia will throw a bullpen session today. If all goes well, he is scheduled to throw live batting practice on August 10.

RHP Jon Lieber
Injury: Ruptured tendon in left foot (out since June 21)
Update: Was seen by foot specialist Dr. Norman Lichtenfeld on August 3 and is cleared to begin a rehabilitation program.

RHP Ryan Madson
Injury: Strained right shoulder (out since July 29)
Update: Will be re-evaluated today and will not throw for one to two weeks.

RHP Scott Mathieson
Injury: Sprained right elbow (Had Tommy John surgery on 9/29/06)
Update: Will throw live batting practice on August 9 and, if all goes well, will begin a rehabilitation assignment on August 12 (team to be determined).

2B Chase Utley
Injury: Fractured right hand (out since July 27)
Update: Was seen by hand specialist Dr. Randall Culp today and had his stitches removed. He has not been cleared for gripping or hand exercises, but will continue his range-of-motion exercises and other non-related activities (i.e. fielding ground balls). Has a follow-up exam scheduled with Dr. Culp on August 13.

RF Shane Victorino
Injury: Strained right calf (out since July 31)
Update: Began a running program yesterday and, if all goes well, is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment this weekend (team to be determined).
